Jack Kirby was overated as far as his influence on comics?
Jack Kirby was the god of Marvel Comics and the industry, or it would have been just as well without him?
To answer the first part, probably. "Was he overated as far as his influence on comic books?" is such that I would say yes given. Kirby was throwing a very creative guy not afraid stories with great concepts. He was an average writer and a very stylized artist, not everyone's cup of Cup of tea. I would argue that while almost all comic creators have warm feelings and a world of respect for Kirby, very few of them actually studied his style as an artist or writer, so that, I would say over-estimated its impact on the industry. I'm from the Stan Lee Camp. Kirby was a workhorse, but Lee made it cool to be a Marvel Zombie. Lee is the reason, the Marvel Comic # 1 company, even if you want to say Kirby had more with the creation of the monthly FF books do. Kirby fans have to realize that Lee is widely considered the best or second best comic book writer of all time (w / Alan Moore) recognized. Kirby can only write for Marvel's books would not have been an improvement. Regarding whether they would be better or worse, who can say? I will say it's not a slam dunk, that things would be worse without Kirby at Marvel have. Remember that virtually the entire creative staff at Fawcett Comics was blackballed. Fawcett has been producing the # 1 Selling Comic in the country in the 1950s. You can not do without great talent. Without Kirby perhaps could also mention some other artists "The God of the Marvel Comics" be.
