“Naked Gun” Actor Leslie Nielsen To 84 Dead
Canadian comic actor Leslie Nielsen, star of a movie channel spoof mad, including “Airplane!” and “The Naked Gun,” died of complications from pneumonia in Florida on Sunday, a spokesman. He was 84th Nielsen is probably best known for playing the cop Frank Drebin Lieutenant awkward in “Naked Gun” franchise, but had a career in film and television spanning over 60 years.
Spokesperson said Nielsen died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife, Barbaree, and friends, 5:34 p.m. ET. Born February 11, 1926 in Regina, Saskatchewan, son of a Canadian police officer mounted, Nielsen served as air gunner relays the Air Force as a radio disc jockey before studying acting in Toronto and New York.
He got his first hit in 1950 “Studio One” television appearance and became a Hollywood star in 1954 film “The Vagabond King” and “Casablanca” director Michael Curtiz. The first 30 years of his career, Nielsen has worked steadily as a television show “Peyton Place” and “Virginia” and a reputation for playing authority figures, as the captain of the ill-fated cruise ship in 1972 have “Poseidon Adventure.
“But later generations got acquainted with the silver-haired actor for his performances in plays such as impassive 1980 “Airplane!” and “Naked Gun” trilogy. As Dr Rumack in “Airplane!” He gave a silly non sequitur with a straight face. “Can you fly this plane, and the country is?” He asks a passenger. “In truth, you kidding,” exclaimed the passenger.
The cast was completed by George Kennedy as Drebin partner, and OJ Simpson as their unfortunate colleague “In 1991-after” Naked Gun 2-1/2: The smell of fear, the villain played by Robert Goulet, unannounced Drebin said he not see his name on the guest list. “Nothing to be ashamed.
The last movie, 1994, “The Naked Gun 33-1/3: The final insult” as Drebin tries to avert disaster during the Oscars and infiltrate a prison. Nielsen also released in 1996-spy fraudulent “Spy Hard” as the agent WD-40 and 1998 of “wrongly accused,” a parody of “The Fugitive.
” Recent acting roles include playing a buffoon president in 2003 spoof Hollywood “Scary Movie 3″ and after 2006. In the most memorable sequence of the latter film, his character inadvertently gagging diplomats at the UN, while he was naked.But Nielsen also had a serious side. During the 1990′s, hit the stage in “Darrow,” a drama about a legendary man “convicted attorney Clarence Darrow.
